Sooners Make Quick Change Pursuing Newell
Peyton Newell has been a known prospect on the recruiting scene for years now. The 6-foot-3 and 280-pound strong side defensive end prospect out of Hiawatha (Kan.) helped get his name out over that time by being successful on the camp circuit as well as on the field. With one more summer left before he becomes a senior, Newell is already sitting on 28-offers. Arizona State, Nebraska, South Carolina, TCU and UCLA are a few of those programs that are on his offer list.
Oklahoma's interest in Newell wasn't all that strong for a while but that recently changed when an offer was extended by defensive ends coach, Bobby Jack Wright.
"They (Oklahoma) have sent a few letters within the past year," Newell said. "I actually went and camped there my freshman year going into my sophomore year I went down there and camped. I can't really remember the coach down there but they had a little interest. We haven't been that in touch the last few years but within the last few months they have been sending me a lot more letters and reaching out to me more. Then they offered."
