Houston on Everman LB's Radar
The Houston Cougars are continually trying to build a strong 3-4 linebacking corps and are trying to land some solid recruits that they believe would fit their defense well.
One of the players they are after is Everman, Texas outside linebacker Lincoln Richard.
CougarsDen caught up with Richard on Wednesday night to discuss the recruiting process and who's at the top of his list thus far.
"It's been an intense process, there's a lot that goes into it," said the talented linebacker.
At 6-foot-3, 215 pounds Richard has the size and athletic ability to play in the 3-4. Considered to be a hybrid style player who could play either defensive end or linebacker, he could give the Cougars exactly what they're looking for and the 3-4 defense is not something new to Richard.
"I have played in the 3-4 defense and I think that type of defense would benefit me as a linebacker because the defense is more dependent on the linebackers," he said.
Last season the junior battled through an injury riddled season and managed to come away with 48 tackles, four sacks, one interception and a fumble recovery for his Everman Bulldogs.
The three-star linebacker has five teams at the top of his list right now.
"TCU is my favorite, but besides them my top five teams are Houston, Baylor, LSU and Oklahoma State."
The Cougars aren't in a bad position with Richard as it stands as of now his offer list is up to six as he currently holds offers from Houston, Arizona, Arkansas, North Texas, SMU and UTEP and Houston is the only team that has offered that he lists in his top five.
"I'm going to wait until after football season to make my decision," stated Richard.
That leaves plenty of time for the Cougars to make their mark with the talented linebacker. But if there is one thing we know about recruiting, it's that anything can happen on any given day.
